The POWER OF THE CORPS
Every year Pacific Classical Ballet provides our community with the opportunity to enjoy a full-length story ballet performed entirely by student dancers. Leading up to the final performance, we take a condensed version of the ballet “on the road” to local schools, providing many children their first exposure to a story ballet. If your school is interested in hosting a school show, please call 541-510-4629.
This year our Springtime Story Ballet borrows from three classical ballets – Giselle, La Bayadere, and Swan Lake – to demonstrate the power of the corps, the dancers who work together to tell the story and support the soloists. Without the corps, ballets would be one-dimensional and would not capture our imagination. The corps are the wilis (ghosts of jilted brides) in Giselle, the shades (also ghosts) in the young warrior’s dream of his lost love in La Bayadere, and of course, the flock of swans that Odette reigns over in Swan Lake.
